Why Should You Attend:

Some believe Title IX is the law that allows females to play sports in school. Certainly the Civil right Act Title IX paved the way for that reality; however, Title IX is much more expansive than a sports law. Title IX requires that educational institutions provide for an equal education for females and males. The law includes discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault and rape—a major issue on college and university campuses around the country. Research suggests college campuses are not responding to complaints of sexual violence according to Title IX law requirements, resulting in students’ physical and psychological trauma and violating their civil rights to an equitable education.

Not only does Title IX require that higher education institutions prevent and intervene on instances of sexual harassment and sexual assault, but it is joined by the Clery Act. The Clery Act, a federal law named for a student, Jeanne Clery, who was raped and murdered in 1986, requires that colleges and universities keep a public crime log, send emergency alerts about sexual assaults, train staff and aid victims.

The U. S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights’ (OCR) role and responsibility is to ensure equal access to education through vigorous enforcement of civil rights in our K-12 and post-secondary schools. Failure to abide by OCR’s Guidance may result in a school losing all of its federal funding. OCR issued formal guidance to all schools that1 explains that Title IX also cover sexual violence, and lays out the specific Title IX requirements applicable to sexual violence. A number of different acts fall into the category of sexual violence, including rape.

This webinar provides you with the necessary information to enhance your campus equity culture and minimize the risk of sexual violence and liability.
