This course will provide employees with pertinent information regarding Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and guidelines applicable to the general and construction industry activities and operations. The goal of the course is to help participants gain an awareness level necessary to be able to describe major risks, hazards and prevention strategies. The topics that will be discussed include the recognition of major safety and health hazards in the workplace, prevention strategies that include safety and health management systems, OSHA standards with requirements and guidelines, and where to seek out resources.

Materials Handling, Storage, Use
Module Description: This module covers the safety concerns and necessary precautions you need to be aware of when handling, storing, using, and disposing of materials.

- Name the ways to prevent injury when performing manual lifting

Hand and Power Tools
Module Description: This module will cover how to Start Safe and Stay Safe while using hand and power tools.

- Identify the precautions essential to the safe use of different types of tools
- Name the guarding techniques that apply to hand and power tools
Scaffolds
Module Description: This module provides information on safety concerns and precautions needed when using scaffolds.
Objectives: After completing this module, the participant will be able to:
- List and define the basic types of scaffolds
- List the five major hazards associated with working on scaffolds
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of different kinds of fall protection equipment, as well as the different situations in which each type is required
- Demonstrate an understanding of the regulations for safely working on scaffolds

Walking-Working Surfaces
Module Description: This module provides information on the safety concerns and precautions associated with various walking and working surfaces.
Objectives: After completing this module, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the environments in which OSHA’s standards for walking working surfaces do and do not apply
- Describe the general requirements for the maintenance of walking working surfaces
- Define the terms floor opening, floor hole, and wall opening and describe the various methods for guarding them and other walking working surface conditions
Excavations
Module Description: This module provides information on the safety concerns and precautions when working in and around excavations.
Objectives: After completing this module, the participant will be able to:
- dentify the greatest risk present at an excavation site
- Recognize the three methods of protecting employees from cave-ins
- Name three hazards to people working in excavation areas and ways to eliminate them
- Describe the function of a competent worker at an excavation site

Module Description: This module provides information on the safety concerns and precautions associated with various types of stairways and ladders.

Fall Protection and Prevention
Module Description: This module provides information about the working conditions that require fall prevention and the options available to protect workers from falls.
Objectives: After completing this module, the participant will be able to:
- Explain the importance of fall prevention
- Determine what causes falls in the workplace
- List the factors that affect the severity of injuries from a fall
- Identify dangerous walking-working surfaces
- Recognize methods of fall prevention including guard rails, personal arrest systems and safety nets

Gregory Pattison Senior Vice President, GLP Systems Greg Pattison is a Vice President and Senior Trainer and OSHA CFR 29 1910—General Industry and 1926--Construction. Mr. Pattison was a trainer for Fred Pryor and offered general safety trainings throughout the U.S. His entertaining and informative style offer audiences knowledge that builds critical concepts and understanding to comply with the safe workplace. He has taught over 1,000’s of workers with organizations such as AGC, Department of Energy, FBI, TVA, Exxon, Hess, Hayward Baker, Army Corp of Engineers, Atlanta Demolition, AMEC and Tetra Tech to name just a few. Audiences like the hands-on exercises that reinforce learning and Greg always provides materials after each training program that attendees can take back and use immediately. Mr. Pattison also comes with a lot of experience training large numbers of police officers, firefighters, emergency management, search and rescue, immigration officials and other security personnel in Middle East. He has reviewed Occupational and Health standards based on U.S. OSHA and helped translate the Emergency Response Guide (ERG) into Arabic. He has certifications in CFP, Radiation Safety Officer, DOT Hazardous Materials, IATA, HAZWOPER, Fall Protection, RCRA, General Safety, and asbestos abatement. Areas of deep knowledge include; Demolition, Power Transmission and Distribution, Toxic and Hazardous Substances, Process Safety Management, Army Corp of Engineers Site Safety and Health Officer, Globally Harmonized Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, Leadership, Change Management and workplace safety. Cancellations and Substitutions:
Written cancellations through fax or email (from the person who has registered for this conference) received at least 10 calendar days prior to the start date of the event will receive a refund — less a $75 administration fee.
