Topic Background:

ISO 14001:2015 incorporates more business management terminology and concepts and will ensure that systems will be integrated into the organizations overall business processes rather than being separate entities.

The structure of ISO 14001:2015 follows the high level structure being applied to all new and revised ISO management system standards:

  1. Scope
  2. Normative References
  3. Terms and Definitions
  4. Context of the Organization
  5. Leadership
  6. Planning
  7. Support
  8. Operations
  9. Performance Evaluation
  10. Improvement

This revision includes significant changes, most of which are real improvements, helping users derive more value from their EMS. Organizations without a formal environmental (or EHS) management system should consider it now, with the new ISO 14001 as a model.

ISO 14001 is the world's best-known environmental management system standard, and it provides a systematic framework to help organizations protect the environment through balanced socio-economic means.
